TYPES OF WORK AND JOB-SEEKER VISAS (2025)
The Netherlands offers multiple pathways for professionals seeking employment:

• Orientation Year (Zoekjaar) Visa – Job Seeker Visa – For recent graduates or researchers wishing to look for
work in the Netherlands.

NETHERLANDS JOB SEEKER VISA (ORIENTATION YEAR VISA)
The Orientation Year (Zoekjaar) visa allows eligible international graduates and researchers to live in the Netherlands for up to 1
year while searching for a job or starting a business.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
You can apply if:
• You graduated from a top 200 global university within the past 3 years, or
• You completed a degree in the Netherlands (Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD), or
• You worked as a scientific researcher in the Netherlands with a valid residence permit.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Valid passport (covering your entire stay)
• Proof of sufficient financial means (at least €1,336.92 per month in 2025)
• Health insurance covering the Netherlands
• Clean criminal record
• Proof of academic qualification (degree/diploma)
DURATION & EXTENSION
• Duration: 1 year (non-extendable).
• Once you find employment during this year, you can switch to a Highly Skilled Migrant or Regular Work Visa
without leaving the country.

PROOF OF FINANCIAL MEANS
You must prove sufficient funds to live in the Netherlands during your job search:
• Minimum requirement (2025): €1,336.92 per month
ACCEPTABLE PROOF:
• Bank statements (past 3–6 months)
• Scholarship or sponsor letter
• Dutch bank account statement (if available)

DOCUMENT REQUIREMENTS

• Apostilled copies of foreign diplomas
• Employment references or internship certificates
• Copy of previous Dutch residence permit (if you studied/worked in NL before)

AFTER FINDING A JOB
Once you secure employment:
• Your employer applies for your Highly Skilled Migrant permit through IND.
• You receive a new residence card valid for the employment duration.
• Family members can join you under Family Reunification provisions.
